Patrick and Cameron welcomed butchery apprentices from Bishop Burton college
We were pleased to host a cohort of butchery apprentices in the Farm Shop recently.
The group of students from Bishop Burton College near Beverley visited our butchery as part of a study tour to give the Cranswick Country Food Butchery apprentices an extended knowledge of five butchery businesses operating in the local area.
The visit was organised by Bishop Burton’s lead butchery assessor and IQA, Paul Nicholson, who said: “The students saw the art of displaying meat, meat products and the vast range of added value products that can be made from butchery cuts.
“One of our Advanced Butchery apprentices, Cameron McNicoll, works at Cedarbarn, and took the opportunity to deliver an overview of the business, shop displays, special offers and added value products. This insight was very beneficial for our apprentices.”
Our head butcher, Patrick Donaghy, also gave the group a guided tour around the butchery, counter and hanging facilities. “As it was a Wednesday, our meat processor John Penny was on site delivering one of our Aberdeen Angus carcasses back to us, which was great for the lads to see first-hand. It was a very enjoyable visit.”
Cameron, who was awarded the prestigious Nicholson Award for his exceptional performance during his Level 2 apprenticeship, is currently studying for a Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision, Level 3 Award Health and Safety in the Food Supply Chain Business and Level 3 Award in HACCP as part of his Advanced Apprenticeship at Bishop Burton college.
