PYO Strawberries

Fourth generation farmers

Cedarbarn Farm Shop, Café and Miniature Railway began as a small PYO business by fourth generation farmer, Karl Avison and his wife, Mandy in 1995.

Cedarbarn is run by Karl and Mandy, along with General Manager, Alison Riley, who has grown with the business. Karl’s family has farmed in the Thornton Dale area for over a century, Mandy has years of experience in hotels and catering, and Alison’s father was a well-known greengrocer on Leeds Market for many years – all together, they make the perfect team! The business is a real family affair, with Karl and Mandy’s daughter, Chloe playing a key role, Karl’s sister tending to the kitchen garden and driving the train and Karl’s mum lending a hand in the kitchen on a Sunday.

Our Story

Down on the farm

The 200 acre Cedarbarn Farm is a hive of activity all year round as we work with the seasons to grow and deliver the best possible produce. We grow a wide range of fruits and vegetables and, together with our farming neighbours, David and his son, Sam, Karl rears Aberdeen Angus cattle and Abermax Cross lambs. The care and welfare of our animals is of paramount importance to us; this means that not only do they have a better life than most animals destined for the plate, they taste better too!
