Farmer Karl’s foal is fit for a Queen
New life on the farm – Introducing Farmer Karl’s foal, Lilibet
When Farmer Karl’s not busy on the farm or here at the farm shop and café, he spends time on his other love: horses.
Karl’s passion for horses goes back 40 years to when he used to breed racehorses with his grandad, Eddie. The entrepreneurial pair used to sell their horses at the Doncaster Yearling Sales.
He was inspired to reignite his passion for breeding after he took part in the iconic Ernest Cooper Macmillan Ride of their Lives* horseracing event at York racecourse in 2019. After 18 eventful months of intense jockey training with 11 other amateur jockeys, Karl rode a thoroughbred racehorse for a mile and a quarter race and raised £19,000 for Macmillan in memory of his dad, Colin Avison.
On 25th April, Karl’s former racehorse, Mackem Rocket (Ruby) foaled a beautiful filly who has been called Lilibet, in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Look out for news of her on social media – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
*The Ride of their Lives Day is widely recognised as one of the most successful charity race days in the UK, having raised over £9,000,000 for charity over the last 50 years. If you would like to donate to Macmillan Cancer Support, please follow this link to their website.
