Career opportunities at Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café

Having run the Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café for almost 30 years, we know that the young people in the Pickering area are second to none and we’re passionate about creating career opportunities for local people.

We currently have a vacancy for a Butchery Apprentice to help our in-house butchers with the following jobs:

  1. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Boning and trimming of home-reared beef, lamb, pork and poultry in preparation for retail sales
  2. Further processing of meat to create added value products like sausages and burgers that we sell in the farm shop
  3. Costing of meat products to maximise profit
  4. Preparing counter displays to inspire customers and to encourage sales
  5. Serving customers and dealing with customer requests efficiently and politely
  6. Stock control and learning the importance of stock rotation.

The successful applicant will study one day a week for a Butchery Apprentice and Level 2 Certificate in Meat and Poultry at Bishop Burton College near Beverley. Modules include Level 2 Certificate for Proficiency in Meat & Poultry Industry Skills, Level 2 Knife skills, Level 2 Food Safety and Level 2 Health and Safety. The college provides transport from Pickering, Malton and Scarborough.
